Digital documentation presents its own challenges.
A bipartisan legislation package has been introduced in the Senate to overhaul the way the federal government classifies information and secures documents.
The chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Mark Warner of Virginia, said, “The government systematically over-classifies too much information. … At the same time, we too often fail to protect the nation’s most important secrets. It’s clear that our security classification system is badly in need of change.”
The senators’ actions were, in part, prompted by the recent sharing of classified documents online by a 21-year-old National Guard airman.
